Reception of asylum seekers

Asylum seekers may get reception during the examination of their application for protection.

Fedasil is the Belgian government body responsible for the reception of applicants for international protection.

Fedasil only takes care of the reception: it does not take a decision on your application for protection. Your application for protection is examined by other bodies: the Immigration Office and the CGRS.

Fedasil and its partners

Fedasil is responsible for all reception locations: collective centres and individual accommodation.

In principle, asylum seekers are first housed in a reception centre. There are various reception centres in Belgium. The centres are managed by Fedasil or by a Fedasil partner association (the Red Cross, Caritas International, etc.).

Asylum seekers also get reception in individual accommodation. These are small furnished apartments, managed by the social service of a town or village (the CPAS/OCMW).
