Assisted independent living

Are you recognised as a refugee and older than 16? Then you can ask to live alone.

Would you like to live independently? Then you and your guardian can apply for assisted independent living. That means you live alone in a studio or an apartment.

In order to live alone, you must meet a number of conditions:

  • You are older than 16
  • You are recognised as a refugee, have obtained subsidiary protection or you have a residence permit of more than 3 months
  • You have been living in a reception centre for at least 4 months (long stay)
  • You are sufficiently independent to live alone

You can only move to a studio or apartment once you have the agreement of the reception centre to live alone.

Fedasil chooses a good place for you to live.

Help with assisted independent living

If you live alone, you will receive extra help as an unaccompanied minor.

  • A personal supervisor helps you with practical matters: looking for a training or job, paying bills, etc. Your supervisor also helps you spend your free time, make contact with your family and make new friends.
