Families with children without legal residence

Families with young children without legal residence who are in need can request assistance from the CPAS/OCMW of their place of residence.

Conditions

You can request a reception place for your family, if

  • Your child is younger than 18 years old
  • Your children are without legal residence
  • Your children are in need: you need help to care for the children

Where to go?

You submit a request with the CPAS/OCMW of your place of residence. The CPAS/OCMW checks whether the conditions are met and forwards your request to Fedasil. This procedure can last 2 months.

Fedasil will offer you a reception location in a reception centre of the Immigration Office (IO). The Belgian government pays for your food and accommodation. A social worker will help you make a decision about your future and your children's future.

You can decide yourself whether to go to this reception place.

Towards a stable future

In the reception centre, you will find the time and calm to think about your future. You have three options:

  • You can choose to return to your country of origin.
  • You take the steps to stay in Belgium legally.
  • You continue your journey to another country where you can legally reside.

Think carefully about what is the best option for you and your family, for a stable future. Talk about this with your social worker or lawyer. They can advise you.
